More than any other season, power outages can happen out of the blue during winter—and they can be costly, both financially and emotionally. Last February, for example, a massive storm hit North America, affecting states from coast to coast, including the South. Half the country was under weather warnings at one point, and the storm created hundreds of billions of dollars in damage.

Winter is typically a slow time for home sales, when sellers might wonder if they have any hope of finding a buyer. But will that be the case this winter?

“Normally this is a boring question, but this year it’s anything but,” says Danielle Hale, chief economist of Realtor.com®. Although the housing market tends to freeze up once snow falls, Hale predicts that this post-pandemic winter season will be different: “Sellers can expect to see plenty of buyers.”

The recent weather has been generous to those that love winter recreation. The persistent snowfall that seemingly started in February and lasted all month has made for outstanding conditions for snowmobile enthusiasts. Locally, the trailheads have been packed with folks and their sleds and may be that way for some time to come.
